Default One more supsension question...tech differences between brands

I'm also looking into the various other aftermarket suspension upgrades and had some other questions regarding quality/difference between some of the popular brands. now, I am not looking for a flame thread to start here or a bench race situation, but rather testimonials basically or real tech evidence/better launch times between brands. I'm primarily looking into UMI, BMR, or Spohn for control arms and sway bars, etc. I noticed some have larger/smaller diameter sways bars, mig welded pieces, chromoly options, etc. Anyone notice any difference or better quality between the three brands above...better launch/longer lasting/breaking parts between the three above? Would the chromoly tubular rear LCA's be enough for your standard under 400 hp application automatic trans. street car or do the boxed/race versions offer a noticeable difference or need to be there even on those lower HP applications?

Since this is not a race only 9 second car...nor will it ever be more than likely, I'm not even really looking at the rod end race versions of these parts, but if there is a real quality difference between the BMR or UMI or something or if one actually nets better launch times over the other as one flexes more or something, I would like to know before going any further basically. Sorry for the novel here, just trying to get an idea before buying all these parts and having to sell one down the road as it is not right for my application or something. Thanks.

Ive always prefered boxed LCAs over tubular. I just think they are stronger/ heavier and plant the tires better with less wheel hop. I tried tubular on My 00 formula and went back to boxed after some wheel hop issues didnt go away.

Either company has great parts. I have Umi's tubular controls arms....but will be swapping those out for a pair of their adjustable C.A's. I also have Bmr's adj panhard rod. It's a beefy part...it looks great and it fixed my rearend alignment issue.

Hello,

First let me thank you for considering UMI products and thank you for being in your line up. I will do the best I can to answer some of your questions and I hope my information helps.

All three companies make great components... some of the best in the industry and we understand making your decision can be tough. UMI does offer full technical support both by online and phone, we stand behind our product and do the best we can to make sure the customer is happy. We also offer a 2 year warranty on our products and insure you would not be disappointed in anyway.

When choosing products and between the brands you will not see a difference in launch times or track times when purchasing the same item just from a different company. For example our non-adjustable lower control arms with polyurethane bushings won't help track times any better then the other two companies with a comparable item. What will make a difference is having the correct items for your application and the correct items that work together... this can change how the car reacts, tracks and handles. Choosing the best items is based on how you drive the car, your future plans, your current mods, you near future mods and what you expect from the new set-up. With this supplied information we can make suggestions on what best suits your needs and desire. If you would like to list that information I will be glad to make a recommendation

On the options you were talking I will go over them real quick. Chrome moly material is a stronger steel, it has a higher tensile and yield strength over mild steel which allows us manufactures to use smaller tubing (mostly thinner wall) to cut weight but still maintain strength. The weight savings on smaller items such as control arms is very minimal and not something you would need for a 400 HP car. It would just be money spent that you would not benefit from. Sway Bars- We offer our sway bars based on sizes we have found to work and to work together well. Matching your front and rear sway bars sizing to work together is key when selecting bars. Our bars are matched in kits as we feel works best for the 4th gen F-Body which is a 35mm front and a 22mm rear. Welding- MIG and TIG welding are both good welding procedures. We use a lot of both on our products, TIG welding offers a cleaner looking weld with better penetration.. it is also harder to do and takes more time, this is why many manufactures MIG weld. We do a lot of TIG welding at UMI because we have very talented welders here, we do a lot of MIG welding as well. Some materials such as Chrome moly must be TIG welded due to heat and cracking... I have seen some companies MIG weld chrome moly and that is not good. We have a good group of welders at UMI and we insure you receive a good quality part.

I hope this information helps, if you have any other questions please ask. Thank you!
Ryan
