Question OBD-I Tuning Cable

Whats the best cable I can buy? My car is a 1994, and I want to also purchase Tunercats and learn to tune the car myself.

Ion @ madz28 suggested a Moates cable, but I have seen others on the market.

Any personal experiences?

I got mine from http://akmcables.com/
Shipped pretty fast and haven't had any issue's with it, and it's a long cable I can do most of the work outside the car with it hooked into my laptop.

Is serial more reliable than USB when it comes to using tuning cables?

I can't see how an RS232 serial interface would be any more reliable than a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection. RS232 and IEEE Parallel ports are going away, and USB is replacing both. So, given a choice of which to start with, I would choose USB for forward compatibility.

I'd choose serial over USB. It's too easy to accidentally pull out a USB cable when tuning, resulting in a fried PCM.

Maybe I'm just old school though.

I would go USB, unless your using an older laptop you wont find a serial port on anything newer.

My laptop does have a serial port, if it were anymore reliable than a USB I would be more than happy to use it, but I also trust USB.

Thankfully DELL still puts them on their Latitude business laptops so I can consider both options.

What options do we have for OBD1 apart from Tunercats?
