It's your money, spend it how you want

RPMs are cool, for sure. Except you're going to be dumping in a lot of money into the valve train to keep it stable. It'll be sweet to see the results.

The stock LT1 crank is good for 600+ horsepower and 8000+rpm. Seen it done on a 355 solid roller build.

Why would you go de-stroking an engine when you can have one with the stock stroke that can handle all the rpm one could have any practical application for?

Shave your pistons down to get them lighter, run LS1 rods, and shoot for 11,000 rpm.

Have fun.....wear hearing protection, and make sure there's a solid barrier between you and the engine......just in case !

Back in the day a friend of mine had a 69z28, changed out cam, intake and installed headers, rapped that little mouse to 8000 RPM's! it was a blast until the rod blasted out the side of the block...

The trick with a 302 is compression. back in the day a 301 with 12.5 Jahns pistons and a Duntov 098 cam, small heads, stock exhaust made almost unbeliveable torque! The smaller exhaust system helped the motor make torque was the reasoning of the day. Open exhausts were for high end horse power, not torque. Shift point was 7200 rpm.

A 308 gear and a 4 speed was good for high end speeds, not 1/4 mile launches. Fun on the highway...shift into 1st at 40mph and run it up to 72 mph! 2nd...90mph. 3rd...i don't know, I couldn't find the speedometer needle! 4th was estimated to be 150+ in a 57 billboard. No telling what a modern areo design could do. But isn't that about what a 350 LT1 does...140+.
After reading this Thread I'm all set to go old school 302, 4speed, 456 gears, show 'em what for! LMAO.

I'm planning on doing one of these engines, as well, because I can.

The plan is to find a C4 or Firebird with a blown engine and a 6 speed to drop it in.
