Default Strange Rear-end noises

I have a 96 Z28 M6 and have started to notice odd almost clanking or creaking popping noises comong from my rear end. Now I have been suspecting it may be lack of addidtives in my diff. but I'm not sure. Another thing I suspect is u-joint making this noise. I'm not sure on how serious this noise is, but I don't really hear going around corners or even driving for that matter. When I have the car off and push it a little on a straight line, or when driving at almost an idle it will make the noise, the clanking is almost consistant to a full tire rotation? I'm having trouble identifing the problem. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem or heard of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Quite possible it's a u-joint.

Yeah, I think it might be the u-joint too, but wouldn't that mean most of the noise occur when I make hard turns? Because that's not the case, or maybe I'm dumb, but I've noticed most of the noise slowly going straight forward.
