Default First kill with new XFI cam

Raced my buddies LT1 he just bought not too long ago.

Really nice 97 w fairly low miles.

His mods are cc306, ported heads, Moser 12-bolt, full suspension, EWP, msd, etc etc.

Mine are in sig.

First time we go from a roll and I pull him hard from the hit and get about 2-2.5 cars on him.

Then we go across the border and try a few runs from a dig.

1st race, we both spin pretty good but I feather it and as soon as it hooks I jumped out HARD. He never caught me and I got him by 4 at the end.

2nd race, I got a little too happy off the launch and completely annihilated the street tires through 1st and 2nd. He had his best launch and I had my worst that race. He hit it where it didnt spin but didnt bog. When I finally hooked I started to pull but he pulled back at the very top end and got me by a car.

We get back and I say lets go best 2 out of 3. We stage, and launch and we both spun but not too bad. Pretty even start. I jumped out again after we quit spinning and put about 2 on him at the end. He was juussst starting to pull back, but we were way over what we would probably trap. Way up at the top of 4th.

All in all Im VERY VERY pleased with how my car runs. We will both get faster as we dial in a few more things. My car just has brutal torque at almost any rpm in any gear.

His seems to bog below 3500 then come alive and pull pretty hard. Doesnt really spin at all unless he launches it hard though.

Trying to keep mine from spinning is an exercise in futility. It will spin hard into 2nd and a decent amt into 3rd.

Cant wait to bolt on the slicks and open the hose!

rwhp isnt everything... Theres something to be said for average power.

While his spends some of its time under the powerband, then comes on strong. Mine comes alive RIGHT NOW when you stand on it.

He probably does have more "peak" hp than me but I gaurantee you my graph looks like pure sex compared to his. Meaning more area under the curve.

And no, this is NOT the guy who bent his **** up and fucked everything installing his cam, although his ***-whoopins comin as soon as he is man enough to step up.

What I'll say about the cam is less than 220 intake duration, .565 lift on both sides and a 111LSA +5

That guy either really cant drive or the car is not right. There is definitely better cams to be had than the cc306 but... one that is setup right and especially one with GOOD port work on the heads also, no way would you do that to him.

Ported heads and that large of a camshaft should do some major work on your car... Perhaps he was a terrible driver, had a terrible tune, or his street tires are sumitomos

Walked him again tonight. He was pulling me on the top end. Is that what you guys wanted to hear?

Did he catch me before the finish line... No

You must have the fastest cam only lt1 on earth then i congratulate you for that.
Like i said before something is obviously wrong with his car. If i lived closer i would try to do a few friendly runs but with the way your car runs pulling bus lenghts on cc306 ported head cars i might as well hang it up.

we believe you that you beat him. but we don't believe that he has ported heads as this is this would be the results on a cam vs cam race not cam vs h/c.

A stock headed good tuned cc306 should stomp a mud hole in his *** let alone ported heads which is what makes that cam shine. I have seen them with good ported heads run low 11's @118 120 mph

I dont think CC306's Perform all that well.Back in the Day My friend had a 93 T/A Full Bolt On W/ a CC306 I had a 96 T/A Full Bolt on W/ a LT4 Hotcam and EVERY Single race we had rather it was a dig race or roll I would pull him everytime,Same with my buddy and his CC305,Pulled him everytime too.

A friend of mine also had an XFI Cam, I think it was the xfi292 But he was H/C,Very lightly portwork done to the heads. And that car rode out Ive seen vidz of him pulling 400 rwhp Cam only and H/C LS1's So who knows maybe these XFI Grinds are the new best thing? But they are hard on Valve springs which turned me away from them.

Good runs!!

Good kill! I would agree tho, he "should" get you if his setup is right! He must need gears, the tune is off, or the motor is hurt. Still it is what it is and you had the faster car that night!
