Tranny Noise...
All I know right now is that I have a chattering sound hat is clutch or tranny related. When it is idling and the clutch out there is a slight throbbing chattering sound coming from the tranny. When I engage the clutch it stops.
When I take off from a stop it chatters for a split second then stops. I cant tell if the sound occurs during normal driving with the clutch disengaged or not.
It is a Valero clutch I believe and had a gray pressure plate, I did not put this one in there, it came with the car. With all my mods I am starting to think that this clutch is too small and about to go out. I can smell it burning hardcore when I launch it, and it seems to be giving me problems in acceleration as well. I AM NOT SAYING THIS IS THE CAUSE OF MY ACCELERATION ISSUE...I am not THAT retarded, but it seems like it does not grab like it needs to right away in just normal acceleration...
Is this just a clutch issue, or does it sound like there is more to it?
1. your throwout and pilot bearing could be on its way out
2. the input shaft could have too much play in it. mine did when i pulled it and makes the exact sound if you twist it back and forth really fast
it is definitely time to step up to a stronger clutch kit if it slips under acceleration as well as launching. if that thing happens to explode while racing it around there is a chance you could lose your feet. from shrapnel shooting through the bell housing.
BTW it is VALEO, VALERO is a chain of gas stations in texas & south east.
you will see that name on just about every aftermarket clutch kit. the differences are the friction material and whether or not they used the LT4 pressure place and not the stock LT1. i think there are only 2 companies that make their own pressure plate and disc one of them m am almost 100% positive is mcleod.
