Default LT1_e, CATS, HPTuners...guidance needed!

Ok I'm wrestling with the idea of what to do, for tuning. I have a 96 WS6 that needs a tune. First I would like to tune my self or atleast geta mail order and build on it, i like to learn these things and just know how to adjust everything on my car. Admitting i need (and will get) a mail order tune, which software do i go with from here. I looked at both LT1_edit OBDII, and TunerCats/Jet DST. Everything is second hand info or research on several sites and forums, But i keep runing into this huge knowlege base, support, and education based on HPTuners. I know its a LS1 software, but there is a conversion to the LS1 PCM. Its a relativly large investment ($1000 ballpark) but i am forced to go "all in" and move up the igniton system also. So that method would cost $1500 and I'd get software tuning best of the best, and top of the line ignition system. Problem is (and should have put this sooner) my car is mostly a daily driver, not even modded much (headers, 1.6RR, catback). I could use some guidance here. Try to keep in mind my goal is a smooth running daily drive i enjoy driving, not a HP king of the street (i'd love to do that but don't have the budget)

Ok i emailed EFI connection with a detailed question as to what options there are for LT1ers that want to upgrade to LS1 computer, and I recieved the response "LS1 PCM won't work with OPTI". So from that "indepth" insite it looks like i have to choose between LT1_edit and Jet DST software. I don't want it to turn into that type of thread cause I'm tired of reading those. I'll just keep looking around and try to decide which to choose from. IF ANY KNOWS a THIRD OPTION PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

IMO you have no need to tune yourself. Sure is it great to learn, yes. Needed, NO. Your not going to be a hardcore racer. Which you wont need to be adjusting your tune for weather, da, etc...If your going to enjoy your car, then stick with the mail order, do minimal mods and call it a day. Tuning software is a big investment and seems to be a waste in this case. You will use it one, two, maybe three times. Just my .02 Goodluck with whatever you choose.
