What's with the LS7 lifters?
 

Why do I see so many posts of people who are using these lifters in an LT1? What is so special with them?

they are supposed to be the factory replacement.

The LS7 lifters are the stock replacements. If you go to a GM parts counter that is what they will sell you. Nothing really special about them. I'm running them and they work great.

They are a good lifter, probably as good as the aftermarket ones but at 1/3 of the price.

Ah I see. Thought there was some performance advantage or something.

I found the best price through GMPARTSDIRECT if you go with a set.

They are direct replacements for the LT1 lifter. They are also much cheaper than the LT1 lifters. They are slightly more robust on the ends where the retaining clips go and that is all. The bores, pistons, disks, springs are the same in both lifters.

You may need a slighlty longer pushrod when using the LS7 lifters over the LT1 lifters to retain correct pushrod geometry. No performance advantage at all. Just more robust.

I knew they were the stock replacement, but do they make a good choice when using an aftermarket cam?

They work just fine with an aftermarket camshaft. Running them with my AI cam with no issues.

How much was shipping? Less than a grand? What's the part number for these lifters?

I picked them up for $107.00 shipped from GMPARTSDIRECT a while ago.

They are supposed to be suited for higher RPM's. :)

I've priced a lot of stuff at GMPartsDirect. Their prices always look great, and then they ask you to bend over so they can add their shipping charges. They have those lifters priced at 114.40 right now, with estimated shipping of 24.02, for a total of 138.42. It would be interesting to see what Jason Cromer would charge. I bet he would ship them for no more than five bucks. When all is said and done, he's always beaten GMPartDirect on everything I've ever bought from him.

Either way get them coming! :)

I dont like GMpartsdirect becuae you can not talk to them via phone. I dont want to do bussiness with any retailer that has no phone support. Shipping is a bit high IMHO too.

Sam Taylor is where I always go and the prices are great.

SDPC has alot of GM parts, as does Summit. I like buying from people who exist somewhere and I can call or drive when nothing shows up.

These lifters are nice, but everyone freaking out and frothing at the mouth over them is a little much

Stockers work FINE for most people.

My car had been maintained well and at 90k, the lifters showed zero signs of wear.

I asked Ron at AI about lifters and he said the factory GM part is hard to beat. If it looks good and seems to operate good, its probably good.

I say if your lifters pass a visual inspection and have been running fine, run them and waste money on something else. Especially considering the fact that these will also change pushrod geometry and require a different length pr if you want to correct it.

Ran my stock lifters with the CC306 and they have over 100k on them. I'll be using the same ones on my larger LE cam.
