Default build question

i haven't been on in a while...the car has been put on the back burner for a while. here's my setup and question:

i have an '88 firebird with a '93 LT1. the transmission is a '90 700R4 built locally. i have an extra set of heads that will be sent to LE for porting. i may redo the bottom end, or at least new bearings, rings, and seals. when it comes time to dyno it, will the '93 ECM (chip) be sufficient, or should i look into converting everything to a later setup that didn't use chips?

Step it up to a 1995 Setup with a 1995 4L60E..that will help you in the long run to tune it easier.

If you do some digging I believe the 93s with some modification can be setup for real time tuning which might be easier for you than the 94-5 setup which gets reflashed so no realtime tuning.

The stock 93 system is not realtime tuneable I am saying I believe there is a replacement chip you can get that lets you do that. If dyno tuning that could save some serious time.

thanks for the replys. so 1 vote '95 and 1 vote '93 w/ possible different style chip. i don't plan on retuning the car very often. once it's set on a dyno, i'll leave it alone unless something isn't reading correctly. of coarse, leaving it a '93 would be cheaper, but if the '95 is better, i'd want to look into it. is the '95 an obdI or obdII?

95 is flashable OBDI, so no burning chips.

But if you go with the reatime tuning on the 93 dyno tuning will be a lot faster and easier.

Both systems have advantages. I put the 94-5 system in my 96 and like it but that does not lead me to automatically think it is the only choice.
