Default Isky Adjustable Guideplates - What joy...

___Lol... Man, these things are loaded with things to do. Mock up with studs, pushrods, Rocker arms, check rocker alignment on valve stem tip. "Guess" how much to grind off, take off everything, walk over to grinder, grind off 'some', clean it all off, start over at step number one.

___Next, after finally arriving at what I had to grind off BOTH sides (they intersect so you have to grind some off both the left and right halves) comes the next tedium. First I put some Loctite on the ARP Rocker studs, hand thread the stud into the head, then I carefully orient the halves to align to the tips. Carefully, I lift off the rocker(CC 7/16" Pro Mags) then take the socket and gently place it on the stud and turn it to tighten it to the recommended 50ft lbs. As I turn it, the guideplate is grabbed by the turning stud and pushes off to the right, thus throwing off the alignment. DOH! Repeat two more times to the now thunderous cussing rants. I finally figure out that if I put a bit more amount of hand tightening, then tap it back into place with a brass drift and punch, it'll stay in place for the full tightening.

Hahaha... jeez... good thing I love working on my car/motor.

It is suggested, but not necessary.

At first, I thought the welding was to keep them 'solid' but now I think it's more like to keep the darned things in relative position if you ever loosen the studs.
I will weld mine for THAT reason.

I wish some bolt on's would work. I had the GM versions from my ported LT1 castings that I *thought* would work. The stud holes matched up but the intake valves are repositioned over .150 from stock to allow for the bigger intake valves(2.055) on these canfields. I haven't tried my valve covers yet. I hope those fit! Lol... Now, with the offset of the Intake valves, the Rocker arms look (somewhat) like this when you stare down at them

The Isky's should be welded up after installation. They were the only GP that allowed everything to be lined up like it should...

Yeah. These are going to be absolutely perfectly aligned when I'm done. I had called Canfield and spoke with them about getting some guide plates directly from them. He said they don't have any and haven't made them since the initial (and probably only) batch of heads. He was surprised that I had a pair of them. They're pretty rare.

I may be way off, But I plan on running a 3/8 pushrod and taking some GMPP guid plates and milling them to fit. It he alignment will work it should be pretty strait forward

Well... since these heads feature intakes offset .150, I thought I'd best order some .150offset scorpions but w/1.7 ratio.
They just arrived...

Huh? Oh.. packing. Never seen this style before...

Now this is more like it...

Pretty....

So I went out to the shop and thought I'd do a quick 'trial' fit using the in-place Iskys. Ugh.. nope. Let me try the stock GM guideplates. Ugh.. nope. Back to the Iskys. Looks like I'll have to do more trimming/grinding on the ISKY's to get them to line up correctly.
