Default New Daily Driver Poll

I've got an 00' Eclipse that is my current DD. I drive 60 miles round trip every day to work.

My Mother is wanting my car and she has a 94 Formula. It has 220,000 miles on it. I just replaced the coil, opti, head gaskets and tons of other stuff that was bad on it last year.

Question is, trade my mom for her formula? My eclipse gets 28mpg and the Formula probably gets a tad over 20 im thinking.

What to do?

I take it the formula is a auto if it's only getting 20mpg. A couple years ago i would tell you to jump all over it but now it's kinda about re-sell value, mpg and simplicity. Good luck on your choice man

I just bought a 99 chevy reg. cab short bed to DD. I drive a lot of miles a day back and forth to work every day. The truck gets worse mpg's than my 00 T/A, but im keeping miles off my T/A, and it seems more fun to drive when i do drive it.
Its not all about fuel millage to me.
Good luck on your choice.

I would rather have the formula... but gas mileage isn't my biggest concern.

I say go for the Formula. The fun factor of driving the Formula will deffinetally make up for the gas mileage!

I agree with the fun factor, but that is also the reason why he may not want to make it his DD. It is unlikely he races around in his auto Eclipse and is unlikely that his mom is racing around in the formula. And although he recently did a bunch of maintenance on the Formula, he should consider that 4l60e rockin 220k+ miles on it (along with other misc. parts that may be likely to fail). If he plans on modding it or taking much advantage of the 'fun factor' i would want to have a some money set of to the side for necessary repairs.

So Im kinda up in the air on this one. If you plan on modding the formula then make sure your ready to make possible repairs. If you're concerned with fuel mileage than you probably should stick with the eclipse. If you want something thats going to be alot more fun to drive than choose the formula.

I don't post often, however, you wanted pros and cons...

In my mind there is only one choice.....the F body...but then again I have a *****......I'm not a hater my wife had an eclipse spyder a while back cute little girls car, then she had a SCION XB an uglier little girls car, now she drives a G8GT. Now she has a car that I allow on my property and she can finally park a car in the driveway.

However, I'm assuming you are male... If I was wrong with that assumption I apologize and I suggest you keep your pretty little girls car.

Help your mom out. The auto in the Formy is going to be more fun. Take the advice and get a $500 beater... in my experience that's a little tough to do it seems.

Took this advise that has been given to me too many times. Finally got the Formula this past week. Man what a great feeling to finally be behind the wheel of another fbody.

Got several problems to work out with it but nothing major. Biggest thing is the gas mileage is worse than it should be. Converter won't stay locked up, keeps kicking in and out and i think the o2's are throwing a code.

Here is a quick pic of the bird.

One of those good from far pics. Paint is peeling from rear and front bumper and the clear is peeling from passengers side. I hope to paint her this summer and get some zr1 wheels too. Cant make up my mind if i should get silver or black wheels.

They came factory on the '93-'94 Formulas and Trans Ams before the 5 spokes became standard in '95. The 6 cylinder wheels of that period look similar but in a 5 spoke design.

My vote goes towards the Formula. Sure you will get less gas mileage but the overall driving experience will be alot more fun.

i drive my formula everyday now when its not bad weather. I drive bout 30 miles round trip to work everyday and i average about 23-24mpg. My car i used to only drive on really nice days with no chance of rain. But now i just got my truck which gets horable gas mileage... i drive the car rain or shine. just not in snow. its kinda sad because it used to be if there was even a 10% chance for rain i wouldnt drive the car, now i dont care as long as it aint snowing or lots of salt on road. i need to get another cheap car to drive everyday like the s10's i used to have.
