1996 B-Body Cam Selection
Current Mods:
Custom Ram Air Intake w/ working Cowl Induction Hood
4.11 Rear End w/ Posi
22" Rims 35 Series Tire
Stock Bottom End / Stock Heads and Valvetrain
Stock Stall Converter
Stock Manifolds
I plan on installing a set of long tube headers before I get into Cam replacement but I'd like to keep the heads and bottom end stock for now, I'm looking for a "Temporary" cam for a rough lopey idle but my main focus is performance. I plan on doing major head work and bottom end work in the future but would just like to put a cam in now to get me by. Looking for a nice low end/mid range cam to get my 4500lb beast moving...Preferably without having to change out the stall or springs or rockers, but if the performance yields are much greater by running a bigger cam with a stall and springs & RR I'm more than willing to do so, I'd like to know all my options though. I've seen so many cams from so many different websites it gets overwhelming... NOT looking to take my RPM's to an unsafe level or lose any Low-end. Street car doesn't see any track usage at this point.

If anyone can help me out with some more in-depth information it would be great as this is my first time selecting a Cam. Will be doing most of the install myself.

Edit: Also anyone know the specifics of being able to Cam the LT1 in B-bodies without removing the motor? Or am I hoisting it out for this one, thanks!
Are you on impalassforum.com They have tons of useful info there.
I hear the 503 and the 227 commonly, I think the 227 is hard to find now, but I honestly cant remember if thats right or not.
Good luck either way, and keep us posted here and over there^ Hope this Helps

Also, I believe you just have to remove the radiator to get the cam out. Worst case is you will have to move the condensor also, if your A/C works then you can swing it out of the way, if its empty just pull it off.
