Help won't start.

Help won't start. My stepdad just bought an 97 ws6 and it has h/c/i, tb,susp mods all kinds of ****. Well anyway he has been having some issues with it not starting. He said that driving down the hwy he would notice it kinda chug before it woul go into stupid mode. Well he would just push in the clutch and rev it up and it would kinda work itself out. Well since this last time it acted up the thing will not start. The fuel pump is workin when u turn the key but haven't verified if working when cranking. My question is might it be the opti spark r maybe even a crank sensor. And I there a way to take the car to the zone or something and if they plug it up will they be able to verify. I can take it to a local performance shop but just chkn all options. Any info will help. Thx.
