Default need some advice on what to do

I have a 97 z28 with slp cai and loudmouth cat back. It has 116k miles on it now. I have 15k dollars to play with and I'm trying to get the biggest bang for my buck safely. I need advice on how to go about this including labor. I don't know which brands to go with, any advice will be helpful.

How you spend your money solely depends on your goals. What are you looking for? A street/strip monster? Drag only machine? Auto cross?

I am looking for a street and strip monster. I want to be able to drive it on the roads fairly often as well as be able to hold my own at the strip.

Define "hold your own." 12s? 11s? 10s?

Ok..how much do you want to spend..and how fast do you want to go?

Next question would be can you build it on your own?

If i were you I would do a 355 rebuild, LE2 H/C/I,ford 9 inch, trans rebuild, drag lights or welds, and spend the rest on suspension. but with all that + labor you will be up there around 15K but you will have 11 sec car

11s can be had rather easily with or without nitrous. A full bolt-on car and a nice nitrous kit will get you 11s easily. 15k can get you quite a bit.

What's the best kit to get? And this might be a dumb question but I understand the 9" but not the ford part what's that just the brand or an acronym or what?

Id just buy a crate motor/someones low mileage hopped up motor, have someone throw that in and rip out the a/c or anything else that gets in the way and take your trans to a shop and have it rebuilt

I'd say have your engine rebuilt into a 355 with quality parts. Stock crank would easily drive you into the 11's. LE LE2 or AI 200cc heads/cam package will get you where you need to go

For tranny rebuild and daily driving use, I like my Performabuilt 4L60e, but Finish Line Transmissions are known to make a quality rebuilt 4L60e/4L65e. I would contact larry@speedinc.com regarding prices, etc. As far as stall converter, I have a Yank SS3600 and love it but if I could have done it over again I would have went with a 4000 stall. Rear end I would personally do an Strange S60 Dana (yes, they are heavy as hell, but they are proven to lose less power than the others while providing the extra insurance you need)

I'd do lloyd elliots Lt1Le3 setup with forged 383 internals, moser M90 rear end, heavy duty driveshaft, build the tranny...perhaps some nitrous. That'd get you really bookin...
