Default 11's with Heads and Hot Cam...

Hi I'm new to this forum, and I would like to know if anyone has made 11sec. 1/4mile runs with the Hot Cam and a set of heads N/A. I own a 94' Z28 with AFR 180cc heads and Hot Cam, 3500 stall and 3.73 gears. I'm waiting on my 1.7 roller rockers before I go to the track. I'm hoping for 11's, but I just want to see if it's possible.

Absolutely, it has been done many times. It's all in the overall setup.

While 11s aren't out of the question, a larger cam mated to those heads would be a much better choice, IMO. You've got a great foundation with those AFR heads (ported?) yet you're using such a (relatively) small daily-driver cam.

Hotcam seems way to small in my opinion. This is a full weight car correct?

My heads are the AFR "Street Eliminators" and I have about 120lbs of weight reduction.

The Hotcam can easily get you in the 11's if you get the rest of the setup correct. Your gears and TC are good enough to get you there. If you have the traction, 11's should be easy in a 3800 lb or less car.
If you're still running anywhere near stock CR, install the Hotcam at 107 ICL rather than just dropping it in at the typical 109 ICL. It was designed as a roadracing cam, and it works better for a driver and at the strip if you advance it to a more typical ICL for a SBC 350.
But after saying all that....sheesh!....I agree with the comments along the lines of "why?" For a few dollars more, you'd easily be in the DEEP 11's!

Well I got the Hot Cam when the car was a D.D. Now that I have a truck to D.D., I want an 11sec car and if the Hot Cam can get me there I would be satisfied.

the hot cam is great cam only, if your going to run the afr's id def. match the heads with a better cam. ever thought about getting a custom grind cam? even if you dont go the custom grind route there are much better off shelf cams to suit those heads.

The hotcam is already in there. Run it with your new heads and see how you like it. You can always swap cams later. Everybody hates on the hotcam

If its already in there give it a try and let us know the results. If it isnt sell it and get a bigger cam. With the setup you have dont see why you wouldnt hit 11s on good tires tho.

Did you get your 11 second time slip with the hot cam? How do you like those 1.7 rockers? I got a set of le1 heads to add to my hot cam car and am thinking about going with the 1.7's for the extra lift

people have gone into the 11's with cam only on the motor...this is not out of the question whatsoever, especially with a nice set of heads like you've got.

I've been running a set of Scorpion 1.7s since 2007 and I installed a set on my son's 96 LT1 last summer. We LOVE 'em. They kicked up the valve lift to the .600" area.

I ran a 12.93@106 with a 1.8 60ft UNTUNED AND CAM ONLY with a 12" 2800 stall and bolt-ons. Now I have the AFR's, 9.5" 3500 stall, EWP, 200lbs weight reduction, 1.7rr, battery relocation and sway bar removed. I think I need fuel injectors and I still need a tune. O, and I love the 1.7rr because they beefed up my cam... I let you guys know when I get that 11sec time slip..lol

Ran the time below with the hotcamkit and bone stock heads at the time, if I left 500 rpms or so higher on that run I would have gotten there.

Trapping 115 is pretty sick from a hot cam on stock heads. I wish I lived at lower altitude take me a 150 shot to keep up lol
