I have the 1" Breslin "split lock" stainless which has a + cut in the end of the bolt and is drilled through the middle with a set screw which when tightened causes the + to expand, not allowing the bolt to back out.

Always go with a 1" bolt. The threads in the head are plenty deep enough for whatever thickness flange your headers have. More thread engagement = more bite = more resistance to backing out.

I used stainless 1" Breslin Split Locks, which I believe are now a Percy's product. They won some engineering awards when they came out, and are probably the most innovative locking bolt design.

When I was deciding on a bolt, it seemed like a lot of people thought the Stage 8 bolts were a PITA. The consensus seemed to be that the Breslins were the best locking bolt, but the guy who started the company died, and the bolt became almost impossible to find. I believe Percy's picked up the design a couple of years ago. If I had it to do over, I'm not sure whether I would use a locking bolt. I would consider going with the 1" stainless ARP bolts.
