Default oxygen sensors

Seeing how my car is covered and it's freezing out, maybe someone can help me. How many oxygen sensors does my 96 SS have? Also, does anyone know why I would get two codes saying my car is running too lean? I have a loudmouth I catback and slp cold air kit. What would cause a car to run too lean? Afterall, these cars were made running rich weren't they? Thanks for any help.

I thought there were four? Two up front on the manifolds, and two by the cats?

Wrong. All OBD2 cars (started in 96) have 4 O2 sensors. 2 pre-cat, and 2 after-cat. All 95 cars sold in California also have 4 O2's, and the dual cats as well.

You have 4 sensors, 2 on each side. The front ones are used by the PCM for adjusting fuel trims. The back 2 are used by the PCM to monitor the cat efficiency.
Which codes are you getting? Listing them may help figure out what is going on before you start throwing parts at it.
Also, it would greatly help if you did some real-time data logging, even a wideband in the tailpipe. You can use these tools to monitor the output of the sensors, and the wideband to see if you really are running too lean.
I use Autotap and an LM-1 to do this. I checked out a friend's Toyota this way, and figured out his injectors were at fault, plus his front sensor was lazy. He sent the injectors off to FIC, replaced his front sensor, and is extremely happy now.

gmpartsdirect.com is the best place to get them, but there might be a cheaper place. Do a search as we have talked about this several times
