Default timing cover hitting cam pin...

Tried putting my timing cover on only to find it hits the pin on the cam. Am I missing something? It's a cc503 in a 94 camaro. ThoughtI would check before i took a grinder to it...

92-94 f-body LT1s still use a short dowel due to the spline driven opti. It's 95+ that use the long dowel. So as long as you don't plan to convert to a 95+ opti...get your grinder out and file it down till it clears.

OR hit it down in with a hammer works most the time the pin can suck into the cam some

I tapped it in with a mallet. Best done with the cam out of the engine.

He has a 94 so his opti is a spline drive. The dowel pin must be flush with the cam gear, and the spline drive shaft goes into the center of the cam gear to drive the opti (its also keyed to get the timing right).
