Default Torque converters??

Starting my upgrade list and one of the most important parts this year will be a stall converter. What brand should one use?? I hear TCI is a good one at a good price but don't want to go cheap and have problems later on. Thanks!!

Hey, welcome to the board! The converter is only part of your combo which must be matched to your cam and rear gear...This first thing you need to do is determine the goals for the car and then pick your parts accordingly...Having said that I use the Precision Industries Vigilante line of converters..Yank is also a popular choice..I'm not a big fan of the TCI converters for our cars...This is one place that you don't want to "cheap out" on...

Thanks for the info Alan!! My plans for this car this year is converter and long tube headers and get rid off all emmissions stuff. The car has on it now 3:73 gears, cold air intake, 160 thermostat, cat back system and PCM reprogramed. Next year I plan on doing cam and rest of valvle train. Am I heading in the right direction here??

if your coverter goes it will potentially take out the trans as well which can get really expensive, really fast. Im going with a Vig stall as well (spragless using a trans brake)

TCI's are junk. Check this link out and you will see why:

Like already stated, the converter is one place you don't wanna cheap out on so a high quality stall is a very good idea.

I have ran two Yanks very successfully and love them. The other high quality converter manufacturers that are popular on here include Vigilante, Circle D, FTI among a couple others.
