clutch install hey guys i have a 95 formula 6speed lt1. im putting a new clutch in on saturday and was wondering if there is anything special that needs to be done. this is my first clutch job, my friend who is helping me has done clutches but not on a lt1. is there anything special that should be done???
Take clutch fork all the way out seperate trans from bellhousing first then take off bellhousing it's alot easer that way if you didn't know allready you may need to rent a pilot bearing/ bushing puller too. Fairly easy job took me about an hour my 2 nd time to drop it out. Flywheel was still warm when I took it the machine shop that morning... Had to drive it hm from work that day
Unbolt the tranny from the bell housing first, DO NOT press on the clutch pedal while the Slave Cylinder is unbolted from the bellhousing as you will destroy it. Also, make sure you get a very long 3/8 or 1/2 extension (I bought a 2 footer) and plenty of swivels as you will need them to get to the top bell housing bolts and lastly, change your pilot bearing while ur in there as its good insurance and very easy to do once you have the clutch out. Some people will say go with a bushing instead of a bearing as the bearing can come apart however I prefer the bearing as they are smoother and less chatter. Good luck, easy job just take your time.
