you will need hardened PR with guide plates

The ISKY adjustables allow for independent allignment to each valve tip.....

I also started with GMPP GP's and they quickly wore, switch to the ISKY

The Isky plates are definitely hardened.

If I had to do it again, I would get the Isky's and use the GM plate as the template. I would adjust the Iskys to match the GM in terms of alighnment and throw a tack weld on there to lock them in place. Then bolt them to the head.

Done.

Correct. The plate should be as hard as or harder than the file, as such the file won't cut the plate.

....actually the benefit of the ISKY's is you can adjust them to line up vs the fixed position of a solid GP. I would not "match" them to a fixed GP but instead position them to each valve tip for perfect allignment...something the fixed GP's don't do.

I have never known the GM bow tie plates in question to not provide accurate PR alignment. At least I have not noticed anything to be concerned with on mine and hence using the GM GP as the template.

Assuming one did have an issue with the GM GP alignment. I completely agree with you that you now have the adjust-ability to dial it in and account for possible tolerances from head to head. For the perfectionist, this is the only way to go.
