Default Still Misfiring!

So the LT1 is freshly rebuilt with about 700 miles on it. We got 8.5 MSD wires, new opti, and a new coil and it was still misfiring. Then we change the plugs to NGK TR6's and then the problems where gone until about 50 miles ago when now I hear a ticking noise at idle and now it looses power past 5000 (could go to 6000 no problem). Also when I am driving at a steady 3000, it will every so often miss. It misses but not that bad, but still pisses me off cause everything electrical is pretty much new. Any ideas what it could be this time? Burnt wires maybe? Also the water pump has a drip every so often and I noticed that it sometimes drips on the opti but we are talking about very small quantities but could that be the cause too? Thanks.

Smile Trouble shooting your mist

There are a few ways to check ot the wires if you do not have the instruments that an Auto Electric shop has. In the almost dark location~ with the engine running, spray some water - perhaps with just a tad of soap or detergent in it at the wires. See if they are arcing onto metal parts or the engine. The arc will be be, brief and hard to see.

Engines that miss at high RPM or in a limited range may be fuel starved or have a dirty fuel filter.
The water pump and opti are too close on LT1's and leaks kill rthe opti.
The water near the opti is a bad sign agravated by a proximity design flaw that was later corrected by GM. So, it may need in the near future both a water pump and an opti. In the meantime any plug that did not give a positive snap when it was attached or that is arcing can be fixed cheaply. Fuel filters are about $10.00. I'd try the easy ones first or take to an auto electric shop.

Thanks for all the tips! I have a work shop so at night I would drive in there, turn off the lights, and look under the hood and I could clearly see the arcing.

However, I think I found the problem(s). Well the plugs that were arcing, I put brand new ones. Then I changed the boot on the wires that when on those plugs. I also regapped every plug from .035 to .025 and added lots of die electric great on the plugs and the inside of the boots. Lastly, (most likely the cause of all the problems) I have a MSD 6 BTM box to retard the timing because I have a supercharger. Well it comes with a *** that you can turn to retard the timing even more. Well it was all the way to the left(0 degrees retard) so I turned it all the way to the right (I believe it is +4 degrees retard). I did all of that and presto! It fixed the problem
