Oil Pressure problem???

Today I was on my way back to school and I stopped at a red light for a few seconds and noticed that my oil pressure was going from about 20 psi to over 80 psi (needle pegged out) then right back to 20. It did this about 4 times. After that one time it hasn't done it since. I have a 96 LT1 running 5W30 with forged pistons. I had driven about 30 min prior to this so everything was good and warmed up and I just checked the oil level right before I got on the road. Has anyone ever come across something like this? Could it be the gauge, or the pump or the sending unit?

check the wires at the oil switch. When it is disconected it pegs out over 80 so check to make sure the plug is atached all the way and that the wires are in good shape.
