Default Help Please! Engine electrically died on return road after run

After a shake down run was completed and on the return road to the pits. The engine just died. I have power at the power windows, headlights and all bcm controlled devices.

I have no instrument panel gauges, or power at the diagnostic port so code reader will not work. it doesn't see a PCM.

There is power at all pcm power feeds in the harness and all grounds in the harness are good. There is also power at the coil leads feeding the LTCC.

We checked all fuses and they are all fine.

Anyone have any ideas where to look next? I'm trying to get this fixed for this weekend we are running in an event and have to leave out Thursday night.

Thanks for any guidance.

Did you check your power block to make sure all leads are tight?

If all switched power is dead it's probably the ignition switch (or the connection, there).

The power windows work with the key on. the ignition switch is new. I replaced it less than 200 miles ago when I had other issues. This is in my S10 Blazer. I had checked all connectors at the pcm and there is power at all the pin locations that should have power. I then checked all grounds and they had shown as good.

I could reinstall the old ignition switch, it still works, and see if I get the gauges to cycle and power to the data link

Do the battery cables have good leads? It may sound dumb but I had a pair of corroded battery cables that wouldn't let my car start, but would sure let it run.

Battery and cables are all new.

what bothers me is the smoke and the lack of pcm recognition at the diagnostic port under the dash with the scanner. we have power at the pcm and good grounds. just nothing after the pcm. headlights all work, aftermarket gauges work just the factory dash gauges that receive a signal from the pcm have nothing.

Fuseable Links, Fuses..any of them burned out?

Sounds like you possibly have a wire crossed somewhere and it fired something major.

What smoked up?

we aren't sure what smoked there is nothing visible and it came out from under the fuse box under the hood. this is in a 01 blazer and the fuse box is mounted on the ds fenderwell in between the window washer res and the abs module. we unbolted the fuse box and looked at all the fuse's then looked underneath and everything looks to be ok. nothing smells burnt.

what has me confused is there is power to the pcm at all the pin outs that should show power and all grounds show connected.

We will be also rechecking the fuse box and power pin at the DLC tonight if power is present I hate to say it but it sounds like a pcm went bad.

Oh I still use your site. even through the swap and I refer it to many people. We found the issue tonight. we checked the ohms on the grounds and per your site it states no more than 5 ohms. well we had 20+ ohms. this made us research the ground issue much better. well it turned out to be the grounds loose on the firewall. all is running great again.

thanks to everyone who had input in this to help brainstorm this problem I really appreciate all the help!

thanks, I know electrical problems are the worst. It can be an issue in so many different places.

We had to find it since this weekend we are running in the s10 supernationals in Florida Emerald Coast Supercooler dragway. Now we are ready to go!

thanks, we are looking for 100+ mph in the 8th this weekend. we were close but we aren't shooting it from home and was only shot with a 125 shot half track and pulled off a 93.71mph pass at 7.33 and a 1.6 60 ft. not too shabby for a full weight suv on leaf springs. Here is the run even with its gremlins.

we tried to hit the gas sooner and wheel hop from hell. while I'm at the track this weekend a friend of mine will be taking measurements for a custom set of traction bars (daggers). these are similar to caltrax. once those are on we can shoot it from home with no problem. I've already done the 8.8 swap so i won't be looking at 10 bolt parts flying by me.

we will be at the Emerald Coast Supercooler dragway near Milton Fl. (Holt)
