Default Rocker Stud Questions

I have a couple of noobie questions guys. I am in the middle of my cam swap and I am just curious as to what these things in the rocker stud holes are. When I broke the stud loose I heard air release? Im just wanting someone to explain whats going on/ how it works if you could please.

Here's a pic to show what im talking about.



Also, I purchased these ARP 7/16 rocker studs slightly used. They cam off an LT1 and the stud part that screws into the head is quite a bit longer than the stock stud. Im guessing that I have to get new studs now?

The things on the holes are heli coils.

What part number studs did you buy. There is one for a big block that is longer

These heads have Heli coils from the factory? Whats with the air releasing when I broke them loose? Does oil run behind the studs? I don't have the exact part number for the studs because I got them used without the box. When I screw them in by hand they hit the bottom of the heli coil and stop turning. So im thinking they're the wrong ones.

No the heli coils are not from the factory. Oil doesn't run behind the studs but water does

Yes, they are heli-coiled from the factory. Since the heads are aluminum, you don't want to screw the stud into the aluminum head itself. Mine made an air release noise as well, pretty sure its normal.

Correct part number should be ARP-134-7103. Are you using guideplates or running self-aligning rockers?

I was gunna say... I don't think this motor has ever been touched. I am going to be running NSA rockers with guideplates. Thanks for the PN nick.

Did you screw in the stud with the guideplate on? The guideplate should cause the stud to use less threads in the head.
