Unhappy help help help!!!!

Ok I just replaced the fuel pump last week due to this problem. The problem is I get in my car put the key in the ignition and my fuel gauge shoots WAY! Past full and my fuel pump won't turn on thus stopping me from starting my car. A few hours later it will be fine and return to normal. What could this be??

I know what this is I went through this myself. The fuel gauge operates off of a potentiometer in the tank. (Varying resistance as the little plunger goes up and down with fuel level) If your ground goes bad going to the tank or in the tank the pump will not turn on and your fuel gauge will peg becuase the resistance signal going to the computer pegs due to the open circuit. Theres three wires going in the tank, black grey and purple. Im willing to bet the black wire either is cut somewhere or broke somewhere. On mine the little yellow bulkead fitting went bad on the top of the sender. I just ripped out my pump and went external cause the little 255 wouldn't keep up anyway. But yea you can either just by a new sending unit or fix the wiring. I guarantee this is your problem.

It's very possible you bumped it loose when you removed it. The fuel pump assembly is fairly fragile.

Do the trap door! I did it and I was so happy I did when the car didn't run after I put the new pump in and I found out it blew the line off inside the tank
