Default MSD 6AL Mounting

I did a search and it seems quite a few people have been mounting them in the glovebox. I want to try to find a different area if its possible. Anyone have pics of their mounting locations? Anywhere in the engine compartment? I realize that might not be the most ideal with all the heat.

It will run hotter in the glovebox due to lack of ventilation. I suggest mounting it on the driver side shock tower near the fuse box.

Thanks for the suggestion Joe. I was hoping you would chime in, you seem like one of the most knowledgeable people on here lately.

The glovebox is specifically called out in the MSD instructions as a place not to mount it (for reasons Joe mentioned). I guess people don't read instructions.

I have one to mount, so I have gone through the same issues.
First, cooling is the main problem. Fix that, and you can mount it on the Equator. A fan, such as a PC fan, should fix that easily. Glove box, console, who cares. It is cooling, and only cooling, that is an issue.
Second, proximity to the coil is paramount. I plan to mount mine on the front, driver's side, in front of the radiator. Those who think the engine compartment is cool are being unrealistic, IMHO.
The only concerns are:
Cooling - does your location offer sufficient cooling?
Proximity to the coil and Opti - don't allow a voltage drop over the length of the wires. Correctly adjusting wire gauges will rectify this issue.
Mount it on the moon, but make adjustments accordingly.
The MSD instructions are based on the fact that some do not consider cooling an issue. It is. Cool it correctly, and it can be mounted anywhere.

Who wants to hook up a PC cooling fan and subsequent wiring in their glove box when four sheet-metal screws is all you need?

JMHO.
