Default Need some quick opinions/ info...

Hey guys, don't post much here because I usually find what I need by searching, but I need some help making a decision. I was in the middle of going through a 94' Caprice LT1 block for my 87' bird, gettin ready to replace bearings and all that good stuff when I found out that the engine had spun a main bearing and a couple others didn't look too great either. Needless to say, the crank was messed up in the process. Now the part I need help with is a friend offered to sell me his 94' Roadmaster LT1 (block and rotating assembly) with a supposed 80 some thousand miles, has a little wear on a rod bearing or two, but nothing major, even though it doesn't seem to have had oil changes on time due to the smell the inside gives off. He's asking $250, and he takes my block for his build (he's gonna redo everything because he's gonna go with a bit more extreme setup than mine is). So, my question is, is it worth it? I kinda need to know before tonight because we're gonna talk after he gets outta work around 10-10:30 tonight. Thanks for any help!!

For that amount of money, IMO, you get what you pay for. You also want to make sure that it isn't the L99, or "baby LT1" that was available.

Thanks for the reply RamAir. The "you get what you pay for" is what is holding me back. I have not had much luck with this project so far, so making choices is getting harder and harder for me, lol. On one side, I don't really wanna end up taking my current engine to a machine shop because that usually means big bucks, but on the other, at least I'd know almost everything inside is new and my bottom end is sound. So I just figured I'd see if $250 was worth it for a "good" short block and go from there.

Hey man if your going to build a motor do not i repeat DO NOT RE-USE Rods and **** like that. thats just a ticking time bomb about to spin another bearing or possibly lock the whole damn motor up. save your money up untill you can rebuild it new. hell id say about a grand you could rebuild the bottom end of a LT1. my 383 bottom end only ran me 2300 from eagle and keith black pistons. plus a few other things. so just spend the money right in the motor unless you like building motors and wanna do this one again lol
