Copper Gaskets leak after Header install?

make sure you torque down the header from the inside bolts and work your way out

I tried everything. I was afraid I was going to pull the threads out of the head they were so tight. Paper gaskets were an answered prayer. Does anyone have a way to fix the collector hitting the floor, while Im at it?

Not sure about your collector issue, but with paper gaskets you want to make sure and retorque the header bolts after the gaskets have been heat cycled. They will shrink and the bolts may come loose causing another leak which of course can damage the gaskets.

Also, i think the flanges on the pacesetter's are just to shitty to use a copper gasket. I have them too and would never had even tried a copper gasket.

I recommend nothing but Remflex. You can get them from poweraddersolutions. They are a sponsor here. Ive had problems with Summit, Mr. Gasket, Felpro, and Percey's. Remflex are a crush style gasket that mold to the imperfections on your flanges or heads.

Copper gaskets are supposed to do the same thing, however there is only so far they can "mold" before being useless. Besides, he already posted the problem was solved using a paper gasket.

Exclamation Problem solved - but another arises!!!

ok - I lost the copper gaskets and installed the Mr Gasket PN 5903 and there are no leaks! However, during this project I have deleted the EGR, replaced the opti, new plugs and wires, new o2 sensors and added headers (obviously). Now when I go to start the car it turns over for about 15 seconds before it fires up. Once it starts it idles fine but there is a lag when you go to rev up the engine. Does anyone have any idea what this could be??

get a tune but could be your fuel pump or filter...i have the problem of the check ball in my fuel pump is letting the gas fall back into the gas tank so sometimes it takes me 5-10 seconds to start up whereas it used to start up immediately

my experience is no harm using a bit of coper rtv. my parts are large and intrude on the bolts at the edges.... it works for me.

what works for some may not work for others..... but wtf do i know

as well........ my .02 try schonfelds gaskets! excellent product and reasonably priced.
