Internal motor questions

Internal motor questions Alright so i started taking my new longblock apart some more today, and I have 2 main questions.
The rod bearing caps have this grove in them, is it normal??
and in addition, i was unlucky and found 1 cyl wall with rust. Doesn't look to bad but I figured id see what others think.

the groove in the cap is to properly locate the rod bearing so yes that is normal and as for the rust in the cylinder wall that is hard to guage by a cell phone picture, I would hone it for sure and see where you end up
I think theres a different groove in the picture but its not clear enough and as for the rust spray it with wd40 and lighty rub it with a scotch bright pad. Im sure someone might disagree but ive never had a problem with it

iv been keeping WD40 in the cyl walls and oil in the rods/crank. Iv heard of the scotch bright pad to get it off, but i have also heard it will burn its self off when the motor is started?
