Default 1994 LT1 Opti Question

I replaced the opti cap and rotor with a MSD and now it will not run at idle??? It surges at about 1000 rpm's and you have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running. Any suggestions on what could have went bad?? The battery has been disconnected for over a month. I also replaced the wires.

It surges and backfires????

Hopefully you just miswired the plugs and have two crosswired. That is usually the case when you get a back fire. I would check the easiest side first and if you find two switched try starting it.

If once you get wires corrected it still has problems then it must be misinstalled. Let's hope for an easy fix and assume wires will fix it.

Good luck

I pulled the firing order from SHBOX.com? But I will double check.

Thanks

i had that same problem im my 93 camaro. i took out the msd distributor about 20 times but it turned out it was only my coolant temp sensor. i would test/replace that first. it should only cost about $20 and so much easier to replace than to reinstall the msd

The one on the head or the one in the water pump? Because when I ran it to purge the system it would not warm up per the gauge???

did you actually take the opti off? If so, when you installed it, did you have to use any excessive force?

I had this same exact problem because some douche who installed my opti installed it wrong and it was just one tooth off. I'm talking the piece on the back of the opti that goes to the water pump.

Yes took it off. And no, it slid right on. Took probably an hour to find the sweet spot.

UPDATE!!! Found my issue after tearing the thing apart! I tore my intake elbow when reintalling it and it was sucking air before the MAF. I got it running and pushed in on the elbow to somewhat seal it and it ran without surging and flooding. Now I need to find a good elbow or just go cold air.
