Default Do I even need this part??

okay, when i did my cam upgrade i had the EGR and AIR system deleted from my computer, well when i pull off my valve covers i find there is a ton of little, what seem to be like carbon crystals in there... since the intake manifold was off there is a sensor on the pass side, its like a 3 inch long sensor, bolts to the manifold, and has 2 vaccum lines running off it, do i even need this? from what i have seen its an EGR purge solenoid which i no longer have, and i shook it out and it was like the movie black diamond, nothing but black crystals shook out... if my EGR is deleted, do i need this sensor???

Is it the one mounted on the passenger side of the intake (not the MAP sensor) ?? I was wondering what that was myself. I don't have EGR or AIR anymore either. I wouldn't mind removing this if it's not doing anything. Would clean up the look, plus it's weight...even if only ounces. They all add up. LOL I know some will scoff at that statement, but if you look for places to lose ounces off your car it helps in the end. My 61 Bel Air "bubbletop" weighs 3450 with me (180 lb) 4 gallons gas, all iron BBC, long tail TH400, stock glass, and all steel except bolt on FG cowl hood, ft bumper, and pin-on trunklid.

On the passenger side is the EVAP solenoid (not a sensor). What you are finding is carbon that has been sucked from the canister in the RR wheelwell. It could have only gotten there from incorrect operation.

The EGR solenoid is on the driver's side.

also if anyone knows the gm part number for this part it would be appreciated, i was told disconnect the line from the canister, and from the fuel line wire loom, have a friend hold it aside and blow it out, what about the canister, does that ever need service?
