Default AC FAILED... need help

i rebuilt my engine, had to take off the ac which i did. when i installed my motor i hooked up the ac but i never got it refilled since it was towards the end of the year. i never turned it on from inside the car. I then had it charged the following year and it blew cold air for about 1 month then started to blow out warm air. I had someone do it, they pressure tested it and it held pressure. the car has 110,000 miles on it. Could i have hurt the pump by running it dry??
Im probably going to by a new ac. I have a 1995 lt1. What is the best Ac unit out there??? thanks

There could be a couple of reasons for it blowing warm, and I'd do some basic troubleshooting before dropping a few hundred on a new compressor.
1. You orifice tube could be clogged.
2. You may have a leak in the system.
3. The evaporator box drain could be plugged. When this happens and it fills with water, the evaporator becomes an ice ball, and you don't get cold air.

If you do have to get a compressor, NAPA is your friend.

ok so the drain was clogged because water was coming into my car lol. so i went under and unclogged it and it worked. then about a week later it was bad. Nothing in the system at all. i took the plug off and pushed the valve stems up in the engine bay and nothing came out.... wat else could it be.

Maybe I'm totally missing something here...but one would ponder the possibility of a LEAK if there is no freon coming out the charging ports. Just a thought.

Regardless of what you saw at the time, you have a leak now. There's no other way for refrigerant to leave the system, and it never wears out.

Lets put it in terms that make sense...

You heart is beating in your chest a week ago. You are perfectly fine. Your blood pressure is normal.

a week later, you die when an artery gets severed when Gregrob stabs you.

Do we assume that because everything is good a week ago, that Gregrob couldn't spill your blood today?

To find the leak, you either use an electronic leak detector or put dye in the system. Don't run it dry if you can avoid it. It probably won't hurt if you run it a little bit, but it won't help, either.

The electronic guy is a couple hundred.
The issue with running it empty depends on where the leak is. You could end up sucking your system full of air/moisture. Moisture in the compressor oil = acid.

You can jump the clutch direct to the battery. If you don't hear any death rattles, it's probably OK, unless that's where your leak is.

Running it with out freon will not hurt it there is supposed to be oil in the system. If you did not put it back in after you took the compressor out then it is fucked. Buy a compressor and dryer as well as have the evap and condensor cleaned. If you did not re fill the compressor with oil it more than likley shot parts of the compressor throught the system and is going to clog up the condensor.

is it possible that the leak can come from the pump?

Sure, likely in fact. As with anything else that rotates, there's a seal where the compressor crankshaft comes through the case.
