Default LT1 year ID

I've posted here before about LT1's and how I new were one was that I could have for a really really good price and its now mine. I pulled it out of the car it was in along with the 4L60E and the complete wiring harness. It now proudly sits in my basement waiting to be swapped into my 72 Cutlass. I know the motor came out of a Impala/Caprice and I have the computer service number and was hoping someone out there might be able to id the year of this motor. It was missing some parts when I pulled it and wanted to make sure I got the right parts for the right year as I don't know what differences there might be. I'm missing the ICM, the coil, and the O2's. There is a sensor on the side of the oil pan that I am assuming is a low oil indicator that also needs to be replaced.

Thanks I look forward to LT1 power in the near future

Sensor could also be the Oil Sending unit if its a early 94 motor, if its the Oil level sensor it will be brown and made of a hard plastic and octagon shaped as well i believe

If the sensor is on the side of the oil pan (like he said), it's the low oil sensor.

i dont want to sound like a wet blanket but since you mentioned the possibility of comming from a caprice you did check for the 4.3 marking on the block right?

4300 on rear of the block and 588 on the water jackets you have an L99.

5.7 on the rear of the block and 327 on the water jackets you have an LT1.

Fingers crossed for good news!

When I pulled the motor I meant to check that, but I was running late for work...then with finals finally over I just checked and yup its the unlovable L99.

But all hope is not lost, I still have a professionally converted harness, a good opti, accessories, fuel pump, and a good trans. Is there any difference on the intake or heads of a L99 and Lt1?

Maybe I can turn this around and have a nicely built 355 or 383 when I get a new shortblock...maybe even sell the 4L60E and see if I can get a m6. One thing I've learned restoring my cutlass is you can never let it get you down no matter what, because in the end nothings better than when you first crank it up and go for the first drive

The heads are pretty much the same as the iron LT1 heads except they have 1.84/1.50 valves instead of 1.94/1.50.

The block has a 3.75" bore. It can safely be bored .060".

The crank has a 3.00" stroke.

The rod length is 5.964".

The intake and throttle body are the same.

Where are you located?
