Default Picking up a MOSER 9". Need opinions/advice

First off, I know I don't own an LS1, just a lowly, under-powered -low tech, inefficient, little LT1 but I really need some advice on this subject 'cause the answer would be the same if it were for an LS1.

I've finally made the decision to upgrade to a Moser 9". As much as I don't like the fact that I will have a Ford-based part on my GM, it's obviouse from all the info. I've read that the 9" is WAY stronger/durable than the 12 bolt. I'll just have to bite the bullit.

Anyways, I plan on ordering it from
http://www.spohn.net/product.cfm?productid=1337 .

These are the options I'm going for:

Center Section : 35 spline/Detroit Locker
Case Type : Thru-bolt aluminum
Gear ratio: 4.11
Wheel Studs: Standard Length

Just wondering if any of you have this set-up in your fbody and could tell me what you think of it.

Some of the questions I have are.

- Why is there no price difference between the 31 and 35 spline axles? I'm assuming the 35's are stronger is there some sort of disadvantage to using them over the 31's?

- The housing material. I've heard that aluminum shortens th life of the ring and pinion. Is this true? How much of a weight saving is the aluminum over the nodular Iron?

The only option's for TCS are:
1. NONE
2. 4 channel

My car is a '93. It's a daily driver. Will the 4 channel work for me? (the reason I ask is because on the site is says (96-2002)

Wheel Studs. Is keeping the standard lenth alright? Pro's ? Cons?

Any help and/or additional info any of you can give will be greatly appreciated.

I plan on making the order some time in the upcoming month.
Do any of you know any other place that I can order one for less $$ ?

Some people are just afraid to give out advice because someone else, with more tech knowledge, may say something differently.

I understand that the 35spline is stronger but heavier. If you plan on going pretty far with the car(transbrakes, 10sec or lower et's), then go ahead and beef up with the 35 spline.

The aluminum housing...I've heard of people actually tearing up the aluminum center section. This IMO would also depend on how much power you're going to throw at it. I dont know the weight savings between the two.

As far as the 4 channel business, I dont know if you can actually have it installed and then spice your 3 channel signal connector to read the reluctor wheel on the axle end or not. Most people either ditch the ABS or use a 12bolt that offers the 3 channel ABS. Maybe someone will chime in on this.

Stud length. I can't remember all the rules(NHRA) but you may want stronger studs at some point. People I know with 9" rears usally opt for the bigger/longer studs. (Con's) would be if you're running stock wheels your rear lug nuts will be bigger than the fronts. Also, you'd have to run with the studs sticking through your lug nuts. This is not a big issue IMO.
As far as pricing, the best I could tell you is search/call sponsors. There's always someone with a rearend deal.

Hopefully this will open up your post for more replies and less views.

Dont want to knock anyone but why would you want a Moser 9" over a Moser or Strange 12bolt? With a 9" the car is jacked up in the back doesnt look right and you have to cut the spring right to get the car to settle properly. And what about the width? I think its longer? Get a part that is designed to fit in there. As for being better than a 12 bolt, 12bolts are pretty hard to break. Dont want anyone to take offense just wondering why you think that its better.

From all the people I've spoken to whether they were friends of mine, members of different car forums and people who actually own 9" or 12bolts, everyone agreed that the 9" is the way to go if your looking for a rearend that is virtually "bulletproof". Apparently, Moser 12bolts are good to about 550-600hp max and that's about it. They don't have the option of a DETROIT LOCKER which is something I want. The 12 bolt's only options are a spool (not good for a street car) and an Auborn Posi (fragile when compared to a Detroit Locker). Also, I've lost track of how many times I've personally seen guys blow there 12bolts. A friend of mine last summer blew up his 12bolt on his third time at the drag strip (that rear had about a 9 runs in in before it broke). Needless to say he was pretty pissed. nearly $3800 Can. and he got only 9 passes. Heck, his 10bolt lated 5 years without problems. I have yet to see or even HEAR of anybody braking a 9". I don't really want to g to the Moser 9" because I really want to keep my ride all GM. But at the same time I don't want to have to spend so much money on a new rear, only to have it break after a few hard launch's. A 9" I know is something I will NEVER have to worry about breaking, (not with my streetcar anyways.) Buying a 9" is like buying "peace of mind" I can install it and forget it. It'll never leave me stranded like a 12bolt could. As far as a 9" "jacking" the back of he car, well, I've herd people say that too, but I've also heard people say that wasn't true. I can't comment on that 'cause I don't have any experience with it (yet).

Anyways, iis there anybody else on here who might be able to comment on my choice of option on my Moser purchase? Or do any of you have any other suggestions/input on the 9"?
