Default piston and head question

will this piston and these heads work?

sbc125030f05

LT1 LE3 heads are designed for "built" bottom ends using after market pistons
(Mahle, SRP, etc) with larger valve notch to clear the large 2.055 intake valve.

thanks guys, Tom

depends on what you want to do with the car. those pistons are for a 6 inch rod which I am sure you are aware of and if there are any plans for spray or boost personally I would stick with a shorter rod. they only have 5cc reliefs so depending on head gasket thickness and the LE heads which I believe usually finish up around 58cc you are going to have to balance compression ratio and quench distance depending on how large the camshaft is to help bleed off cylinder pressure so long story short you have not provided enough info for anyone to really give you a good answer

you're right if he is running e85 or leaving the deck height stock and using a .060 thick head gasket...shouldn't run into any problems at all

maybe he wants to run q16 or something? i think he's asking about PTV, not compression.

we've run those pistons with 2.08 valves no problems, but you should always check the clearance anyway.

it's pretty straightforward. clay in the valve reliefs. you need to use a solid lifter because the hydraulics will bleed down. turn the motor over. take the head off, slice the clay in half and measure the thinnest part on both the intake and exhaust side. unless you're running a large by huge cam i doubt you'll come close. Shoot for about .100 on the exhaust, you can run the intake tighter, maybe .080. Think about valve events here... as the piston is coming up it's chasing the exhaust valve, but the intake valve is coming down towards the rising piston. If you're running tight on either side you can retard or advance the cam to get you some more clearance.

I know it a ford.......but there are a few good pictures of claying the valve reliefs toward the end of the album. You can see how we slice it with an exacto knife to check various areas.

your not supposed to use playdoh you use modeling clay for best results and easier clean up.
