Default Belt Slip

Recently I've noticed, since its getting hotter out, that my belt is slipping when I turn on the a/c. Right when I turn it on I can hear it slipping a little at idle and if I give it any revs or the rpms change I can also hear it slip and squeal a little. I do hear it slip a tiny bit every once in a while when I start it without a/c also but its very tiny. Any ideas on what I should do? The belt isn't very old and its a gatorback.

That would be the logical next step. Also make sure your water pump is not weeping coolant. It will drip right onto the crank pulley and belt and sometimes not hit the ground. What you would first notice is a squeal on startup because the belt is wet. The moisture then quickly dissipates.

Also try taking some brake cleaner and spray on the pulleys and with a brush or old tooth brush give the pulleys a good scrub.

water pump is an ewp so it shouldnt be weeping coolant. But I will give it a look and change the tensioner. I was wondering if maybe it had something to do w/ my a/c since it feels like it loses a little power when i turn it on maybe there was some kind of load being put on the belt.

Uh, it's supposed to rob horsepower and put a load on the belt.

yes i know this but i was wondering if maybe it was possible my a/c could be going south causing it to be harder to turn the pulley
