If you have the newer, "pin drive" opti, it doesn't matter where the engine is sitting. The opti has 3 indentations on the back, each one to clear the heads of the bolts that hold the cam drive gear to the cam. One of those indentations also has a second "hole" in it where the pin in the cam engages it. Simply align the pin to the hole, press the opti in place, and you're good to go.....

Not to sound stupid, but I don't have any experience with the spline drive units...how do you get the rotor in sync with the cylinder that should be firing?

There is a flat spot/notch in the splines of the connector (that connects the back of the opti to the cam gear) and matching notches on the back of the opti and the cam gear. Hard to explain, but much easier when you see it first-hand. Makes more sense than a cylindrical pin in a square hole

Now that you mention it, this was discussed a couple of weeks ago, and a very clear picture of the back side of a "spline-drive" was posted. I forgot about that....

BTW, a round pin in a square hole......I've been called that more than once!!
