Unhappy Help 93 LT1 starter possesed!!

So we put my longtubes in and started putting everything back in, then when we hooked the battery up, the starter keeps cranking by itself unless you disconnect one of the terminals. The motor does not turn over, the starter just keeps turning over for as long as you have the battery hooked up. This was supposed to be a one day install, but it has been plagued with issues such as the motor not going back into the mount, broken coolant temp sensor, and a few others. To top it off, the starter is doing this and I am so pissed and frustrated with the whole thing, I just want to crank it up and drive the damn thing and I need some ideas as to how to fix this. Please help, thanks in advance.

Sounds like you might have the starter motor wire/terminal shorted out to positive or attached to the wrong terminal.

The purple wire going to the starter should only be hot when you turn the key to the cranking position and it should be connected to the small terminal on the starter. The purple wire runs up top near the computer and passes pretty close to the headers. Take care not to let any harnesses near the header primaries. I've burned one through before and had similar problems.

I had the same kind of problem with my starter and it ended up being a bad unit. It was brand new but it was just a defective piece. I'm not sure if that could be it but that's what happened to me.

The two wires to starter may be touching or you may have wired the battery cable to the wrong large terminal.

Ya know, what we could do is hook up a pushbutton to it and leave it the way it is and give you a pushbutton start. Just an idea. Did you go back and swap the wires around? Is there any way one of you guys could show us a picture of how a working starter works?

Switched wires, but no luck. I think I am going to try a new starter since mine seemed to be going out anyway.

So I fixed all the little issues, got the motor to sit down, but the starter is still acting up. I am 99 percent sure it is hooked up right but it still clicks when I connect the battery. Could it be the starter?

Are we supposed to guess what the problem was? What was the issue? Due to the lack of info in your last post I'm going to assume it was your fault.

Part of asking for advice is telling what the fix was. Post up, bud. It serves to help others.

The positive wire was touching the ignition wire, flipped it around and the car started right up.
