Default Intake Upgrade

When would it be beneficial to upgrade to a single plane etc over the stock breadbox?

LOL. You think a stock manifold will beat out a single plane setup at 6000rpm? You know better than to post stuff like that, irregardless of how many times people ask this question.

A single plane is much better than a stock manifold when your car is making much more power than stock AND you are spinning it a lot higher than stock.

Shifts at 6500, traps a lowly 116, stock unported intake, and I am just curious whether it would be worth it to spend the money on a single plane versus porting the stocker.

What cam are you running? What cubes? Are you keeping the car for a while? Any upgrades in the future? What stall? The stock intake might make more torque than a single plane down low, but that would be moot if you are running a 4500+rpm converter.

He's got a stock bottom end with a 224/230 .574"/.571" 107lsa cam and a Yank SS3600 stall. I have the same heads, cam etc. as he and on the dyno my power peaked at 6250rpm.

Matt I know your car all too well lol.

heh.... cept your car runs as it should... and I have N20 that I need to throw in the mix still...

I would like to keep the N20 stuff, so a single plane would allow a carb style plate and much better distribution etc. Again, just curious.

You never got the car dyno tuned did you? I picked up a 1 mph by tweaking the timing on the dyno. I then messed with my valves because some were inconsistent and went from a 116 trap to a 119. It could just be something your overlooking. Once you get it running up to par and add the spray that car is going to be nasty.

Nah still running a stock manifold. I contacted Josh (STOCKTA) to go above and beyond on a stock manifold. He did alot of custom epoxy work and really did a hell of a job. I'm starting to chase after the small things because I want to see how far I can push this car with the current setup. I haven't been back to the track for results with the current manifold but I think it will net me a small gain.

OP with your setup I don't see you needing a single plane. A ported stock should be just fine.
