Default LT1 teardown question

I am tearing down my LT1 to take it to the machine shop and I wanted to know how to pull off the front piece that is pressed on the crank that the harmonic balancer bolts to. I tried a three jaw puller but it didn't really budge so I wanted to make sure I didn't need a special puller, before I broke it.

you can make a cheap puller for like $10, that is what I had to do, took a special method to get it off.

try searching "crank hub removal" and you will see pics and ways people took theirs off. You sort of need to use a piece that bolts into the 3 holes for the balancer, then you use a bolt that is smaller than the threading of the crank to push against the crank and that way you can push against that bolt and pull the crank hub off.

Your local discount auto parts store will probably lend you a removal tool for free (Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.) They also have installer tools, but the one I got from Autozone last week wouldn't work and I needed to get a length of 7/16" x 20 allthread to get mine back on.
