how bad would it be not to run a thermostat during summer?

 

The LT1 uses a special, long style thermostat that helps direct coolant where it needs to be. The pump has mulitple chambers to accomplish this. Removing the thermostat will not allow the pump to work efficiently and may actually cause it to run hotter. Just put in a 160° thermostat (the correct, long one, of course).
