blown head gasket= better things my 95 z28 has a bad head gasket, its got 165xxx it ran good. since the heads are coming off i was gonna see what some of you guys who have been in this position did. did put in a bigger cam? upgrade valvetrain? etc.

its got slp catback and cai. i dont really need a cam or anything. im gona take my heads to get checked by a machine shope but since i have to pull all that off, should i might as well put in a cam and upgrade the heads?
depends on your budget. Lots of options when the top end is stripped down. A good bang for your buck would be a Nice Elliot Portworks LE2 port and polish job, along with an LE cam could get you a serious power upgrade. Around 380-400hp at the wheels with supporting mods. That'd run around over $2,000 tho
Probably "terrible advice," but... read a couple books and look at lots of pro ported lt1 heads and replicate yourself. If you screw up you're only out the time to reinstall, gaskets and $100 heads.

I wouldn't do much to make more power without freshening up the bottom end too. You might get by for a while with a cam and ported heads but you will be tearing it back down before long.
When my headgaskets went i finished up with all the bolt ons. I did headers, 1.6rr, 52mm TB, crank pulley, ls1 alum DS, new tune. I gained 5mph in the 1/4 and dropped 5 tenths with the car running like **** and a bad 60ft (2.02).
I would also do a oil pump, drop the oil cooler in your shoes. I got all my parts from the FS section, didnt cost me too much
