6 speed transmission problem!!

6 speed transmission problem!! i was driving my car today and when i would shift form seconde to third, the shifter would go beyond third and the shifter **** went so far forward it hit the ***** for my a/c and heat like right below my stereo deck. i was to afraid to let out the clutch so i hauled the shifter back and put it in 3rd again and it was fine. but it happened twice today. whats the problem?

yup.. actually two of them fell out. i cant believe it. i had the shifter off and is there supposed to be tranny fluid under where the shifter is mounted? because theres just residue of it there now and thats it. i put the shifter back on and sealed it and put new bolts in and it feels 110% better.
