Default Summit optispark?

My water pump decided to blow and the service engine light came on. Sure enough it's the opti I'm on a tight budget for now since I'm a college student and was looking at the Summit racing optispark replacement and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it, or if I should just cough up the extra 100 for the GM replacement.

Let me correct myself. There are two GM performance optis I guess. One is for the first gen and the other for the second. Big difference in price though lol.

Awesome advice! I think I'm going to have to go with chandler motorsports on this one. Looks like nothing but good reviews regarding quality, price, and customer service.

I would do what I could to get a new acdelco. I've seen what these "budget" ones do first hand. Thankfully I haven't had to cross this bridge yet myself though.

i had a 95 formy for 7 years and went through 2 brand new acdelco units... when i sold it 5 or so years ago the third one was on the way out all in ~60k miles... i REALLY don't think it matters as much as people say. do i want cheap quality? NO! but with all the good reviews i'm willing to give a good guy a shot... i will not be fooled twice though.

I think I will try it out for now since I need a tune soon too. Worst case scenario it blows later and have to get a different one and find out for myself on the quality of it. It seems like they come with life time warranty.

I'm using a TSP unit, very similar to the one Chandler sells. It has been a good unit so far. The only opti I have had problems with is the MSD, which I got rid of.

Get a chandler motorsports opti, ac/delco, or dynaspark.

if you're strapped for cash, get the CMS one

Chandler Motorsports is willing to put his new top shelf design against, delphi, accel and other optisparks. His new lifetime warranty optispark is now made were the delphi, accel optis are made just different cap and rotors. Btw did i mention EXCELLENT customer support and LIFETIME WARRANTY something you dont get with the ac delco or the others. He has put forth the effort to become a sponsor here and now he is. Cant beat the price and quality.

Check out my optispark preservation thread for advice to get some additional mileage out of your unit. I would say sensor failure due to normal wear and tear is relatively uncommon compared to moisture inside the unit causing failure or rotor blow out.

Also, I think a previous poster hit it on the head. Its Delco if you have cash, or our unit if you're strapped. We don't claim to have a better unit but its as good as the aftermarket has right now. Another thing is I think some people are confusing our warranty structure. We have a 1 year warranty on our standard $89 (85 with forum discount) and $115 units, we charge a little more for the lifetime warranty. So I don't want members to get confused even though we list it on the purchase pages.

I'm not a fan of going overboard with marketing so I will state the only difference is the warranty. Even though they are two different "brands." Its a necessary evil of ebay and marketing in general, but I keep it real on the forums. I've been browsing forums since I was 16 and just want to do things differently than the average vendor.

Right now I'm also currently in negotiations with Delco to start selling their units too for those that want them, but I'm having trouble with them. Hopefully I can get things worked out. These "old timer" companies hate internet vendors.
