I had just posted a thread about crank questions yesterday. I had forgotten about the eagle cast failure in this thread. Talk about catostropic engine failure!! I know I'll never use an Eagle casting, but I'm still thinking about using a Scat cast 383 crank since I won't be spraying.

OP, let me know if you need any misc 5.3 stuff cheap. I have alot of parts from one that I got just to use for mocking up an LSx into a spare 61 Bel Air frame I have along with an empty th400 case I borrowed from a friend.

Really? I thought they were better. I know alot of people who have used their cast 9000 series in bbc 496 motors with no problems. Not 600 horse motors, just 500 to 550 hp healthy street motors. Cruisers.

I guess I better just stick with building a 355.

Scat products are slightly better.. Still if you have a stock gm crank and are only going with a 355 there is no real reason to get rid of it..

The crank has nothing to do with what rod length will work. That is the wrist pin height on the piston. Yes 6" rods work fine with the stock crank. That's what is going in mine

There's tens of thousands of people using eagle stuff too, cast and forged, and they don't all break. I would buy an american made crank, something like a cola, callies, K1, or even Ohio crank.

Eagle scat and lunatis cheaper stuff is all the same imo: cheap.

do most people with 355's still use the stock oil pan or an aftermarket 7qt or something? also which oil pump is best to go with?
