This is probably more of a Cali question but if I remove the EGR and AIR will the car still pass smog if I have someone who will overlook visual? I currently have no Cat so I need a tune to delete the Rear O2 and figured might as well have the EGR and AIR tuned out/deleted while I'm at it. Or am I completely off on how the smog works and it will still register in the system no AIR and EGR?


Thanks for any help, I tried searching but couldn't really find a clear answer. I know it won't help performance or anything but figured while I'm getting a tune why not. Either way just got the car smogged so I don't have to worry about it for 2 years. Car is a '96 Z28 Auto by the way for whats its worth.

if they dont look at it, and you set the EGR and rear o2 codes to "ready" then you will pass. If they look then you wont pass at all especially in Cali

 

I have a guy who will ignore visual for me or a guy who will just pass me. But the first is cheaper haa. I just wasn't sure if you could set the codes to ready in the tune so when he hooks it up every things green and good to go.

And FWIW The previous owner removed the cat and to just have the codes tuned out was cheaper than replacing it..plus I'm sure I'll pick up alittle power in the tune with my Shorty headers and ignition. I don't think the BBK Throttle body will do to much.


I may just wait alittle and pick up this 355 Shortblock with LT4 Hotcam for 400. Ad a set of Pacesetter Non EGR headers and some ported heads & intake and be good.

 

Never knew we had a visual in Cali they stopped that during the recession.
