okay guys thanks for all the answers so far.

just a couple more questions.

i am going to take the block to a machine shop and have it checked out and was wondering what all i should have them do/check for.

And if i need to have it bored .030 over what els would they need to do because i have heard a lot of terms I.E. decked, heat tanked, blueprinted ect.

Also what do you guys think the price would be to have a shop do everything i listed in my first post.

i know prices vary but just wondering what some of you guys think it SHOULD cost.

one more question. anyone know a good shop in las vegas?

thanks again guys

I recently pulled my motor for a LE2 head/cam swap and noticed a chipped cam bearing.

I took it down to the machine shop and they cleaned it up, re did all the bearings, rings, seals, etc. Re conditioned the rotating assembly, checked for cracks and all the usual rebuild stuff.

I had them assemble all my stuff for me as well: heads, cam, rockers, timing chain, clearance valve covers, etc.

It was about 1500 for everything.

Okay guys i need to know if this sounds right.

i went down to a local shop that specialized in camaros and i told him what i want.

bore the block .030 over
forged pistons,rods
lloyd elliot heads and cam
new bearings and all the others stuff that goes along with that.

he said we should go bigger with the motor like 385
he said all that it would cost extra is 600 for a crank

but he said it would be 10k for a setup like this. now i think thats a little excessive for a build that is only going to be making 375-400hp

and then we talked about running a nitrous setup on top of that but im not sure if that was included in the price or not.

so does 10k sound right?

If you look at what I quoted, he said bolt on NOT bolt on + nitrous.

You only qouted the end of his statement, he ment that bolt on cars with nitrous are running 11's. So a h/c car with nitrous will do it no problem.

For your bottom end ^^

If the block is in good condition, you could slap some stock pistons/rods with upgraded bolts/stock crank and all new bearing. Have them balance and assemble it. Bolt the heads/cam on yourself. Save you quite a bit of money and will handle heads/cam no problem.

This is all assuming you have a reputable machine shop. The heads/cam choices there are a million threads on.

For a built race motor making way more than what you want maybe. Sounds like he's trying to talk you into more motor. A shop down the road built my buddies 355 from the oil pan up and even got him a new head for one that was messed up, and with engine dyno tuning and everything it was only like $1500-$2000. He brought them all the parts of course

are golen shortblocks/longblocks any good?

and what els would i need to complete a setup like this?

If you didn't edit the quote before replying to it you would see that what was originally posted was

"Should be fairly easy to run 11's with the 125 shot... Bolt on cars are doing that..."

By me.....

I never said anything about bolt on cars running 11's all motor....
