Callies Dragonslayer Fracture

The #5 main bearing saw very localized heat for sure . The mains are oiled first and whatever oil does not leak past the sides of the bearings is forced to the rods (along with any foreign material ) . To me it looks as though there was an issue with #5 and the loose bearing material caused the rod bearing failure . I would look to see if the oil pump bolt bottomed out on the back of the main bearing (very common mistake ) causing it to run too tight .. As far as the crank showing heat ... depending on how the crank is treated ( ie nitrided or case hardened ) which the Dragonslayer is both, can make the surface of the journal very hard. Harder alloys can be more sensitive to thermal shock and could cause the stress cracks you see at a much lower temperature than it would take to blue the steel. But judging buy the heat pattern on that main I would not be surprised to see that the oil pump bolt ad bottomed out on the bearing.

Its got some kind of oiling issue but without seeing everything as it was and measuring everything any answer is a guess. Was the block line bored/honed before assembly?

thats what i would call heat checked... dunno what the actual technical term would be called..
its from that bearing going bad and then the heat building up in the tool steel material of the crankshaft basicly crytalizing then it will cool to rapidly from oil soak and it fractures...

yes i called them and im going to send it to them soon for a check up but from the picture they think it is most likely too low of oil temp...but i can't see that being the issue because i always warmed this car up to temp before any beating. plus its a 195 thermostat.
