3.73's are always a good balance. If you have 2.73's now even a 3.42's would be nice. But if you have 3.23's going to 3.73's is your best bet. Im running 4.10's in my car that see's the road maybe two times a week. There fine but long trips can get to you alittle. I try and stay at 65-70ish mph on long trips

I went with 3.42's for my A4 (factory 3.23's) to get a little more out of it, yet not sacrifice mpg's because it's mainly a street car. I've talked with several people who regret 3.73's and wish they would have gone with 3.42's. While the switch from 3.23-3.42 is minimal performancewise, the swap from 3.23-3.73 isn't substantial enough to justify the worse highway mpg to me either.

just my .02

same ol **** everybody does at first, TB coolant bypass, maybe a cat delete, CAI, underdrive pulley, mid or long tube headers and gears, that should run you about 4-500 bucks and its all bolts on, not to mention your regular tune up stuff, plugs wires, plugs, coil

Did you feel a difference between to 3.42s? i have 2.73s and i still pull pretty hard. The only thing ive done to the car is nothing its stock even the air filter. Ive only done maintancae myself and keep it in great shape. Yet i was wondering abouut the 3.73s and even 3.90s lol but the gas milage would probably suck.

Oh and i want a cat back but i dont know what to get. magnaflow looks good for the buck i like how gmmg sounds? any ideas?

I forgot, you can get all that used for arround 4-500,

I usually see the CAIs around 75
the underdrive pulley 50
headers can go as low as 200 but around 300 new
and gears hang around 100

ebay is your friend on some of this stuff, I got my Hooker super comp long tubes for 300 bucks brand new(form a guy not a store), and I build my own Y pipe for 50 bucks in piping and a couple of hours of welding, a lot of people here are running ebay headers they are a good deal for the price but most of this stuff you can find used it all depends on your budget and goals

email this guy check if he still has it, there is not too many LTx cars around this area, if I were you I'll check any "you pull it" in your area, my dad got a K&N CAI from a "you pull it" junk yard and I think he paid like 20 bucks for it

The gains from 3.23's to 3.42's where minmial, but I've drven cars that have gone from 3.23 to 3.73 as well (before and after gear swaps) and there isn't a massive difference like most people claim, just revs higher on the highway and accelerates just slightly quicker. However, if you don't care about gas mileage, go for more agressive gears.

2.73's to 3.42's would be more noticable (than 3.23's to 3.42's) I think, however.

I'd say this:

3.42's if it's mainly a street car
3.73's if it's a more agressive street/strip car (less mpg, slightly quicker)
3.90's if it's pretty much a weekend warrior
4.10's+ if you don't care about gas mileage and you're looking to be a new rear end down the road

It's funny, everyone says 3.73's for an A4 and kind of poo-poo's the idea of 3.42's, but when it comes to manual cars doing gear swaps everyone says that 3.73's gains over 3.42's are barely noticable.

oh, and GMMG > all other catbacks in my opinion...it sounds amazing if you like louder exhaust, you won't ever regret it.
